Fasting

Have you ever wondered if you should fast? Let's hear what
Jesus is saying to the Church. "Then came to him the
disciples of John, saying why do we and the Pharisees fast
often, but thy disciples fast not? And Jesus said unto
them, can the children of the bride chamber mourn, as long
as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come,
when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then
shall they fast." ( Math. 9:14,15) Saints, if you ever
wondered if fasting should be a part of your Christian walk
the answer is yes! Biblical fasting means to go without
food or water. ( Esther 4:15,16) Andrew Murray said,
"fasting helps to express, to deepen, and to confirm the
resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything-to
sacrifice ourselves, to attain what we seek for the Kingdom
of God."
Fasting puts things in proper focus. It is a physical way
of saying, "food and the things of this life are not as
important to me now, as what I am fasting for." Those in
the Bible fasted for something or because of something.
Next we will look at what fasting is not.
